Our mission at Escaped Clothing is to promote climbing and other outdoor activities as an outlet for mental health struggles. In the US today, 1 in 4 adults suffers from a diagnosable mood disorder, in addition to this, 21 million US adults battle depression on a daily basis. Our goal at Escaped is to encourage people to reconnect to nature and get out of their heads, even if just for a little while.
There's so much to be gained from unplugging and recharging in nature. I found climbing during a time when I needed it most. I was halfway through medical school and felt like I had no time to spend on any kind of wellness activity. I could feel the burn-out worsening and school felt like a drag every day. My anxiety was also worsening by the day, ultimately causing me to need medication to help. I happened to meet this guy Kevin in passing, and he invited me to go rock climbing with him. The day before my first outdoor climbing trip, 3 years ago, was the last time I took any anxiety medication. The feeling of freedom I got from being up on the wall, only focused on where I was putting my hands and feet, caused all of my fear and doubt to melt away. Kevin and I still climb to this day, along with our good friend Arthur.
The ability of the outdoors and climbing to bring people together in a purely adventurous act is something beautiful. I love climbing because it is simultaneously the most purposeful and pointless thing that I do. We do it, just for the sake of doing it. At its core, it is purely an act of self-love and wellness.
We at Escaped Clothing want to spread that self-love and wellness to everyone. We're a wellness company that communicates the message through our gear.
